From Shetland to Land's End: Spill response & remediation stretching throughout the UK

This October, CTSL Spill Specialists achieved a truly national reach!

Whilst our Scotland team headed north to the Isle of Yell in Shetland following a call from a loss adjuster client, our Gloucester depot attended a domestic spill in a rural part of Cornwall, not far from St Ives and Land's End. With both groundworks teams on site, that's a span of almost 950 miles to the furthest reaches of the country.

CTSL Spill Specialists is proud to serve the whole of Scotland, including Highlands and Islands. Our team based in Bathgate, Scotland, is familiar with travelling to harder-to-reach areas, and this regional expertise enables us to reach sites promptly to commence a domestic kerosene spill clean up, remediation and restoration project.

Our client's policyholder experienced an internal kerosene spill at their home on the west of the Isle of Yell, the second-largest of the Shetland Islands and covering around 83 square miles. Yell is largely a coastal crofting community, with spectacular moorland and a beautiful coastline reached by ferry.

CTSL's Spill Specialists travelled across mainland Scotland and to Shetland by ferry from Aberdeen for 12 hours, equipped with the tools and materials required to complete the job. Once in Lerwick, our team journeyed to Toft where a further ferry took them to Yell and the policyholder's property.

Committed to every job and every client, our team stayed in Shetland for a week, working over a weekend to clean up and remediate the spill before restoring the property as far as possible. One added complication was accommodation; each night, the team needed to stay on the Shetland mainland requiring two ferries a day between Toft and Yell!

We're delighted to have successfully completed the job in this stunning part of the country, using our science-led remediation, groundworks and specialist buildings expertise to return the policyholder's home to a safe condition with its kerosene heating supply restored.

Meanwhile in South West England, our Gloucester depot received a callout to attend a similar domestic kerosene spill at a policyholder's home in rural Cornwall, not far from St Ives and Land's End.

CTSL Spill Specialists' Gloucester depot serves a wide area encompassing the South West, South Wales and Devon. The policyholder's home was situated down a typically Cornish narrow lane, almost 4 hours' drive from our regional depot but - fortunately for the team - not far from local towns to stay in during the job!

Despite the distance between both jobs, they were both very similar in nature. Our specialist domestic kerosene spill expertise removed internal features and structures affected by the spill, the property was expertly remediated using science-led techniques, and buildings teams then fully restored the property to the high standards we're known for.

Project Manager Paul and our Gloucester team were pleased to have efficiently delivered this remediation and restoration job in one of the UK's holiday hotspots, protecting the local environment and ensuring the safety of the policyholder's property.
